Welcome to the Digital Collective: an interdisciplinary student organization at the University of Northern Iowa that fosters digital creativity and innovation.
As interactive visual communication becomes increasingly important, our group strives to learn the latest web design, interactive visualization, and digital media skills. We teach each other, put on workshops and other events to earn money, and we bring interesting speakers to campus who can help us learn about the latest trends. Our goal: to be great at this stuff.
If you’re a UNI student interested in learning more digital media skills, join us! The Digital Collective’s main mission is working towards maximizing the digital media skills of our members, students, and others in the community. We do this in several ways:
Tutoring: As a member, you have an opportunity to do community outreach and earn money for it. DC members help by tutoring people in Cedar Falls and on campus in digital applications, social media, and creative suite software through campus workshops and other events.
Earn Class Credit: Members can choose to earn one credit per semester by tutoring and being active in the club. For more details check out the Earn Credit page at the top. You must sign up no later than January, 18th 2013 for spring semester credit.
Workshops and Events: In November of 2012, the organization put on a day-long digital media camp for middle schoolers. The camp was similar to Camp Multimedia, which takes place at UNI each summer. Digital Collective plans on organizing many more workshops for professors and students during the spring 2013 semester.
Field Trips: DC takes career building field trips to places like Des Moines and Minneapolis annually in the spring.
Speakers: DC has access to interesting speakers that we can bring to UNI to speak about the latest trends and digital innovations.
Resume Builder: Technical skills learned in this organization will set members apart by giving them experience to show and discuss with employers.
